CCTV in a cafe or restaurant: where to put cameras
In a venue cameras do three jobs: order in the dining room, order at the till and order in the kitchen and storeroom. Each needs its own point.

Zones
Six points
- EntranceEveryone who comes in and goes out is visible. The camera is placed so that a face can be made out.
- TillA camera from above: the cashier's hands, the money and the guest are visible. This is the most disputed zone, so the view here should be close-up.
- Dining roomAn overview of the tables: what happened and who was serving.
- KitchenYou see how food is prepared and how order is kept.
- Storeroom and cold roomsYou see who took produce and when.
- Staff entranceDeliveries arrive and staff leave through it. A camera here is often needed more than in the dining room.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Where to start on a small budget?
With the entrance and the till. Other cameras are added later if the recorder was chosen with spare channels.
Can I watch the venue from a phone?
Yes. The owner sees live view and the archive from anywhere there is internet.
Who will work out how many cameras my venue needs?
We do: we visit, look at the layout and work it out. The visit and the estimate are free.
